How do I test Square payments? There’s no test mode.

I set up Square payments on my form but I can’t find a sandbox or test mode. How do I test the payment flow without charging a real card?

Answer

Square currently processes live payments only in PlatoForms — there is no sandbox mode. Any payment submitted through a Square-connected form charges a real card. This is a limitation on Square’s side, not something PlatoForms controls.

Your options for testing

1. Use a small live transaction
Run a test submission with a real card and a minimal amount. This confirms the full payment flow — field display, redirect or inline experience, and transaction record — with minimal cost.

2. Test everything except the payment step in Preview Mode
PlatoForms’ Preview Mode lets you walk through your form’s fields, logic, required fields, and submission routing without triggering any payment. Use this to catch form issues before going live — only the payment step itself requires a real card.
