Incomplete entries

Capture partial form submissions. Follow up before the lead goes cold.

When someone starts your form and leaves, PlatoForms keeps what they entered, even if they never click Save for Later. Your team sees who stopped and how far they got, gets told when an entry stalls, and can send the person their own link to finish.

Entries are kept without a click. Your team sees who stopped and can bring them back.

Partial submissions, kept automatically

See who started and where they stopped

Once a person has answered three questions or reached page 2, the entry is kept and every later change is saved too. On the form’s Submissions page, Incomplete entries lists each one with the last activity, the page reached, how many questions are answered, and the name, email, and phone they typed. Filter by idle time or status, and mark each person Contacted or Not interested with a note for your team.

Team email and Inbox to-do

Know the moment an entry stalls

Choose when an entry counts as stalled: after 2 hours, 24 hours, or 3 days without activity. Your team gets an email per entry or one daily summary, with the person’s contact details and progress, and the Inbox lists the stalled entries as a to-do until someone follows up. Emails go only to the team members who can view the form’s submissions.
Stalled entry notifications
Reminders and resume links

Bring people back with their own link

Pick up to three reminders, from 1 to 14 days after an entry stalls. Each one sends your form’s Save for Later email to the address the person typed into the form, with a link that opens their entry where they left off and a link to stop the reminders. You can also send the link yourself from the list at any time.

Webhooks and API

Send partial submissions to your CRM

A webhook set to incomplete entries receives each entry when it starts, changes, stalls, resumes, is submitted, or expires, with the answers so far. Updates are grouped, so your CRM gets one call after the person pauses, not one per keystroke. The API returns the same progress and contact details and lets you set the follow-up status.

Who follows up incomplete entries

Sales and quote requests

Quotes · Demos · Service requests

A prospect who filled in half the quote form is a warm lead. Call them while they still remember, or send their link with one click.

Loan and credit applications

Business loans · Leases · Credit checks

Long applications often stop at a document or a number the applicant has to look up. A reminder brings them back to the page they left.

Insurance and financial services

Quote forms · Policy changes · Onboarding

See which applicants stopped before pricing and follow up with the details they already gave you.

Admissions and enrollment

Schools · Courses · Childcare

Families start an application on a phone and forget it. Admissions staff see who is half-way and help them finish before the deadline.

Client and patient intake

Law firms · Clinics · Agencies

Know who started intake before the first appointment and remind them, so the form is complete when they arrive. HIPAA teams turn the feature on themselves.

Registrations and memberships

Events · Clubs · Associations

Recover registrations that stopped at the payment or details page, and see where people tend to stop.

FAQ

Questions about incomplete entries

What to know before you follow up your first lead.

1. When is a partial form submission saved?
When the form has Save for Later on and the person has answered three questions on the page they are filling in, or has moved on to page 2. From then on every change is saved. Entries with fewer answers are not kept. If the person clicks Save for Later, the entry is kept at once.
2. Can respondents save and continue later?
Yes. With Save for Later on, the respondent can click Save for Later to get a link to their entry, copy it, or email it to themselves, and continue later on any device. In the same browser, reopening the form within a day also brings back what they entered. Your reminders send the same link to people who stopped without saving.
3. Do partial submissions count toward my submission limit?
No. An incomplete entry is not a submission: it sends no submission notifications and does not count toward submission limits until the person submits it. Then it becomes a normal submission with its PDF, integrations and notifications.
4. Do respondents see that their progress is saved?
No message is added to your form. The Save for Later button stays where it is, so people can still get a link to continue on another device. If you want people to know that answers are kept, add a sentence to your form.
5. Who gets the email when an entry stalls?
The team members who can view the form’s submissions, set on the form’s Permissions page. The email is never sent to the respondent or to outside addresses. It is off until you choose An email per entry or A daily summary.
6. What do the reminders to respondents say?
Reminders use your form’s Save for Later email, so you control the subject and the text. Each one carries the link to the person’s entry and a link to stop the reminders. They go to the email field you choose and stop when the entry is submitted or deleted.
7. Which forms and plans support incomplete entries?
Every form that can use Save for Later: web forms, PDF forms, and master forms. Save for Later is available on paid plans and during the free trial. On HIPAA-enabled teams, Save progress automatically starts off, and the team turns it on.
8. How long are incomplete entries kept?
As long as the Save for Later link is valid: 60 days by default, from 1 day to 180 days or never, set on the form. When the person submits, the entry leaves the list and the submission appears on the Submissions page.
