Creating an Online Form for an Existing PDF

  • Custom Domain

With Builder you can build three types of forms: online web forms, online PDF forms, and master forms.

  • Master Form Builder

you will arrive at the Form Builder. On the form Builder, there are three main sections:

Configure field display name

By default, the Submissions page only shows and searches by Code and Submitted Date. Field display names let you add any form field as its own column — and make it searchable too.

What is a field display name?

A field display name is an identifier for a form field, aiding in organizing and locating data during reviews on the Submissions page. It doesn’t appear on the form itself.

Configure field display name

  1. In the left navigation of the Dashboard, click Submissions, then select the form whose submissions you want to view.

  2. Click Fields in the toolbar above the submissions table to open the Displayable and Searchable Field window.

  3. In the Displayable and Searchable Field window, check Displayable and/or Searchable for each field you want to configure.

    Note

Some system fields — like Rev — can only be made Displayable, not Searchable. Their Searchable checkbox appears greyed out and disabled.

  4. Click Save to confirm changes.

After returning to the Submissions page, the selected fields will appear as distinct columns in the submission data table.

Change display name

  1. In the submissions table, click the dropdown arrow (⌄) next to the column name you want to rename.

    Note

Only your own form fields (like Name or Title) have this dropdown arrow. System-generated columns — such as IP Address, Submitter, and Submitter Timezone — can’t be renamed.

  2. In the Change Column Name window, enter the new name in the Display Name field.

    Note

This field starts empty — it doesn’t pre-fill with the column’s current name — so type the full name you want, not just an edit.

  3. Click Rename to confirm.

Display name status

Setting field display names as “Displayable” or “Searchable” serves different purposes on the Submission page:

  • Displayable
Display names are visible on the Submission page, helping you recognize data types in each field (e.g., “Name,” “Email,” “Phone Number”).

  • Searchable
Searchable display names make it easy for you to find specific submissions. For example, if you want to see all submissions from a particular city, you can enter the display name associated with the city field in the search box. This makes it simpler to organize and locate the data you need.
